Blowing Session (aka Johnny Griffin Vol 2) (200 gram pressing)
LP (Item 613055) Blue Note/Classic, 1957 — Condition: New Copy
A stellar early Johnny Griffin recording for Blue Note, and one that features him in a larger group with Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, John Coltrane, and Wynton Kelly. As the "blowing session" title might imply, this set features long tracks that let the players get in plenty of soloing (and, we might add, in a very competitive way!) The record is similar to the Prestige sessions of the same vintage and style, but recorded with a little bit more of the care and rehearsal that Blue Note provided. Cuts include "Ball Bearing" and "Smoke Stack". (Heavy 200 gram mono pressing!) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
