Woman's Blues (plus download)
LP (Item 595916) Funky Delicacies, 1975 — Condition: New Copy
A mid 70s Bay Area soul treasure by The Variations – with lone female vocalist Samaki given a more prominent presence – and it's the funkiest album the group ever cut! The Variations put out a few really strong albums in the 70s, and they work on various levels. The harmonies are impeccable, actually reminiscent of some of our favorite Chicago soul groups of the period. While the group's slightly later work grooved nicely with a bit of jazz funk mode, this one goes stronger on the funk side – slowing it down on just a couple numbers, and those are great, too! Includes "Daddy Could Swear", "I Remember", "A Woman's Blues", "Ticket On The Ark", "I Got Stronger", a great cover of "Ain't No Sunshine", "Help The Poor (Parts 1 & 2)", "Sain It Doin It", and one more cover – a killer take on "Papa Was A Rolling Stone".
