Soul and Science Vol 2 -- Electric Boogaloo
CD (Item 474564) Single Malt, 2008 -- Condition: New Copy
Hardly the electric set you might expect from the title, but a seriously soulful outing from Chicago saxophonist Chris Greene -- a real up-and-coming talent in the Windy City, and a player with a really great edge! Greene plays here in a quartet setting, and while some of the tracks have electric keys instead of acoustic piano, the overall sound is mostly acoustic -- romping with a range of classic influences that stretch back through 60s soul jazz and 70s modal -- all wrapped together with a tightness that's really great. The set's got a lot more depth than you might expect, and is definitely the sort that should have bigger jazz labels seeking out Greene's talents. Titles include "The Oracle", "Bernie's Tune", "Amalgasantos", "Adamantium (part 3)", "You Win Again", and "Boogie 2.0". © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
