A great one from Shawn Phillips – a set that has more of the jazzy tones of his later work coming to the forefront – in a sound that's fuller, richer than before – with larger orchestrations by Paul Buckmaster and Ian Green, and a growing sense of groove that's made Shawn one of the best examples of the early 70s folk funk generation! There's a tightly vamping energy to most of the best numbers that's really great – and a slightly jazzy sensibility too, even when things still sound mostly folksy overall. Titles include "Song For Mr C", "Sleepwalker", "Keep On", "Song For Sagittarians", "Steel Eyes", "Schmaltz Waltz", and "F Sharp Splendor". (Cover has some wear, a split top seam, and a small split on the bottom seam.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Bright White
A&M, 1973. Very Good
One of the first albums that had Shawn Phillips expanding his groove past more traditional folky rock – a set that features some strong electric touches and a surprisingly funky undercurrent at times! The topics and structures of the tunes still have a fair bit of folk in their roots, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Some of the most hard-hitting work ever recorded by Humble Pie – and that's saying a lot, given the power of the group on other albums! The performance is very unbridled – really open-ended, at a level that showcases not just the mindbending early guitar talents of Peter Frampton ... LP, Vinyl record album

Test Patterns
A&M, 1967. Sealed
A standout set from the songwriting team who provided plenty of greatness for The Monkees – but who sound equally great on their own! The music here really soars nicely – tight LA pop from the late 60s, but never too overdone – and often set up with a jaunty groove that's a ... LP, Vinyl record album

A cool little album of instrumental work by the Human League – mostly pulled from sessions for their first few big hits, and remixed slightly by Martin Rushnet! There's a spare electronic groove here that's very nice – not nearly as dark as the group's first few analogue-heavy singles, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gone Crazy
A&M, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
Kind of lovable, easygoing 70s rock from Nils Lofgren's Grin – amiable guitar and piano grooves – with a bit of bite in the guitars, but with an laidback sensibility overall! The tunes have an unpretentious, catchy vibe to them, which in other hands in the 70s would have come off as ... LP, Vinyl record album

A masterpiece of synth pop – and a landmark album for the Human League! The record took the group from the Brit post-punk underground to the charts of the world – with a stark blend of noisy keyboards, spare beats, and Phil Okey's wonderfully flat and monotone vocals. Euphoria, 1967. Very Good-
Early work by James Taylor – a wonderful batch of folk rock tunes from the New York scene of the late 60s, trippier than Taylor's later work, and with a sound that gets a bit funky at times! There's 2 especially great tunes – both of them titled "Knocking Round The Zoo" ... LP, Vinyl record album
