CD (Item 501590) Chicago Steppers, 2008 — Condition: Used

Great work from the Chicago Steppers scene – normally built around older music or imports, but occasionally a great source for new soul music as well! This set's the soundtrack to the Next Level DVD, but it actually stands even more strongly on its own – a great set of mellow numbers that have just the right rhythms for a stepping dancefloor! Vocals on a number of tracks are by Marzette Griffith – an overlooked vocalist with a sublime sound here – almost a Leon Ware sort of groove that's really great. Other cuts have different vocalists – a bit hard to tell from the notes, but supposedly credited to Bobby Hutton, Brian Henly, and Ray Silkman. Title notes are also a big vague too – but some of them include "Hey DJ", "What About", "Love Zone", and "I Can't Stop Loving You".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
