People's Choir Of Operation Push

LP (Item 40802) Truth/Stax, 1973 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

4.70 45

A gospel album, to be sure, but also one with a pretty darn hip sound – as it's directed by Reverand Marvin Yancy (of The Independents, a group that featured Jesse Jackson's brother Chuck), and arrangements by Gene Barge, who did a lot of hip work for Chess/Cadet. Most tracks have a hip soul style that's not that different from other gospelly soul on Stax – like work by The Staple Singers or Rance Allen – and the album features a cover of "Love Train", plus the tracks "Pass Me Not", "I'm A Child Of The King", "The Push Is On", and "One More Day". (Cover has a mark from sticker removal.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Not the band's first album – as you might think from the "start" in the title – but a classic batch of jazzy, funky, and soulful grooves from The Blackbyrds – one of those combos that few groups could match back in the 70s! The set's got a beautifully put-together feel ... LP, Vinyl record album
