Heavy funk from Jimmy McGriff – a monster set of grooves that ranks with his best of the late 60s! The tracks are short and sock-hard – Jimmy wailing on Hammond, over rhythms that have plenty of sharp edges, and lots of nice drum work – all recorded in a mode that's a heck of a lot rawer than some of his other records! The album brings together all the rough power of Jimmy's years at Sue Records with the funkier grooves of his 70s work – and features a killer combo that includes tenor from Fats Theus, alto from Danny Turner, trumpet from Blue Mitchell, guitar from Thornel Schwartz, and drums from both Mel Lewis and Grady Tate. Titles include "The Worm", "Blue Juice", "Lock It Up", "Think", "Heavyweight", and "Girl Talk". (Cover has light wear, heavier wear on the spine, and some aging.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Veep, 1967. Very Good
Swingin' groovy live set, with a tight combo that races through a good bunch of material – and sounds a lot better than the live groups on some of Jimmy's Sue albums from the time. The whole thing was recorded in Newark, NJ – the home of pure organ grooves – at the legendary ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thing To Come By
Solid State, Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
A real solid groover, and one that we passed up for many years, mistakenly, because the cover looks kind of boring! On the inside, though, the record's filled with lots of nice tasty tracks, and it's got a sinister bubbling under funky feel that's just great. Includes the monster cut "Charlot ... Legwork
Solid State, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
Funky flute work from the great Jeremy Steig! The album's one of his best-ever – and it features the growling "Howling For Judy", a non-stop modal flute number that's been sampled to great fame by the Beastie Boys, and which you'll recognize immediately from the breathy rumbling ... Trip, 1966. Sealed
Trip issue of material from Randy Weston's under-issued years of the mid 60s – just 3 long tracks that are all totally great! Randy's playing with a group that's similar in spirit to that used on the classic African Cookbook – Ray Copeland on trumpet, Frank Haynes on tenor, Bill Wood ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good+
A great little LP – even if it is a discographer's nightmare! The record was most likely recorded originally under Machito's name, and only featured Mann as a soloist – but it's not the album Kenya, so we're not sure which one it is, although it does look like a repackaging job ...
