A strange cover, but a mighty soulful set from Waldo – a really cool Columbia Records soul group with Tyrone Lester and James Brown on vocals, plus some sweet keyboards from Calvin Brunson too! The sound is tight, with the keyboards and basslines really setting the groove – with some nice jazzy flourishes that work perfectly with the album's sweet 80s sound! Vocals are quite nice too – and the whole thing's got a less commercial feel than some of its contemporaries – the kind of nicely understated soul record that Columbia could do so well at the time. Titles include "When It Comes To You", "Looks Can Be Deceiving", "You Bring Out The Freak In Me", and "Spend The Night".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Excellent work by Glenn Jones – even if the record is only a 5 track EP! The set is one of those strange little records issued in the early 80s, when the music industry was trying to figure out a way to make money between the ever-escalating cost of the LP and the less-popular 12" ... Columbia, 1980. New Copy (reissue)
A damn great little record from Clifford Coulter – a set that's much tighter and more soul-based than his earlier funk albums for Impulse Records – but which comes together beautifully, too – thanks to help from Bill Withers in the studio! Not the band's first album – as you might think from the "start" in the title – but a classic batch of jazzy, funky, and soulful grooves from The Blackbyrds – one of those combos that few groups could match back in the 70s! The set's got a beautifully put-together feel ... LP, Vinyl record album
Night Grooves
Fantasy/BGP (UK), 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great album of funky dancefloor tunes! Originally issued in 1978, and clearly for the New York dancefloor crowd – the record takes the earlier work of funk group The Blackbyrds, and remixes the tracks slightly to pump up the groove a bit for the dancers. While the approach might not sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the most beautiful records we've ever heard from the legendary Phil Cohran – a previously-unissued performance from 1993, and one that's every bit as wonderful as his rare albums of the late 60s! The set was recorded at the planetarium in Chicago – and for the date, Cohran comes ... LP, Vinyl record album
