CD (Item 376338) Dragon (Sweden), Late 50s — Condition: New Copy
The near-complete recordings of a number of jazz combos led by Swedish bassist Gunnar Almstedt and clarinetist Ove Lind during the late 50s – an assortment of tunes that originally appeared on rare Eps on the Philips and Knappupp labels, plus a few previously unissued tracks! The work is mostly in a swing-based mode – and sounds a fair bit like some of the Buddy DeFranco recordings for Verve in the 50s – with clarinet upfront as the main solo instrument, and an overall quality that still lets in some bop influences from time to time. The CD features a total of 23 tracks, with players that include Bengt Hallberg, Rolf Berg, Rune Ofwerman, and Arnold Johansson – on tunes that include "Scottie", "Bad Road", "Cotton Tail", "Azure", "Alone Together", "Swingin The Blues", "Opus 1", "Fascinating Rhythm", and "Moments Like This". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
