LP (Item 611069) Cadence, 1981 — Condition: New Copy

A great reminder of the important contributions to jazz that Saheb Sarbib made back in the 80s – especially when he could cook up a richly collaborative session like this! The groove is relatively straight, but the players are nicely freewheeling – just what you'd expect when you've got a lineup that includes Ahmed Abdullah and Roy Campbell on trumpets, Jemeel Mondoc and Mark Whitecage on alto sax, Booker T and David Pate on tenor, Guilherme Franco on percussion, and even a bit of guest tenor from Frank Wright! Sarbib has this Mingus-like way of forging the whole ensemble together with tightness – yet letting the individual voices burst out beautifully too – and even though the record's got some slight electric bass, most of the best energy is acoustic. Titles include "New York Party", "Get In Line", "East 11th Street", "One For Lacy", and the great "Aisha" suite.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
