A great little project that's very much in the same spirit as the Havana Cultura project on Brownswood – a set that features British producer Mala working with a host of contemporary Cuban musicians – all in a groove that takes their roots, and pushes them very firmly towards the future! Mala's not shy about his input here – and really works a lot of electronics and production techniques throughout the set – taking the core acoustic sounds, and moves them into some of the more 21st Century modes that you'd hear from other artists on Brownswood! Things get somewhat abstract at times, yet still have plenty of soul – and titles include "Ghost", "Curfew", "The Tourist", "Change", "Noches Suenos", "The Tunnel", "Mulata", and "Tribal".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

EMI/Now Again, 1974. New Copy (reissue)
A landmark album from Musi O Tunya – a set billed as one of the first Zamrock albums, but a record that's also got a fair bit of funk and jazz as well! Hot Casa (France), 1977. New Copy (reissue)
The album's only got two long tracks – but both of them are more than enough to make it great! "Kalabuley Woman" takes up all of side one – and the tune's got this wickedly dubby approach to funk – almost like Cymande at the start, but then filled up with all these ... LP, Vinyl record album

A stunning set of vocal recordings by Tlahoun Gessesse – one of the most important singers during the golden age of Ethiopian Music – caught here on a set of sides that sadly saw that period coming to an end! Maybe the most mindblowing record so far from the enigmatic Omar Souleyman – a set produced by Kieran Hebden with lots of weird, sharp edges – but in a way that still keeps all the core elements of Souleyman's music intact! Mad grooves from the Ethiopian scene of the 70s – featuring work by the enigmatic Mulatu, plus some of the other extra-cool artists on that country's groundbreaking soul and funk scene!
