All Ya Needs That Negrocity
CD (Item 595654) Avantgroidd, 2011 — Condition: New Copy
The cosmos travelling, ever-creative jazz funk vessel that is the Burnt Sugar Arkestra returns – and they're as unpredictable and expansively inspired as ever! A big part of what we've loved about Burnt Sugar's recorded ouvre to date is their restless spirit and boundless reach – there's a core element of spiritual jazz funk and brilliant musicianship – and there's a whole heck of a lot of space within that core to explore. Not having some kind of defined boundaries sinks lesser ships, but this Arkestra soars – their exploratory nature isn't just an aspect of their sound, it pretty much the driving force. You can sense their love for Sun Ra and the more adventurous psych, jazz and funk heroes of the 60s & 70s, but the Burnt Sugar interplay really speaks for itself. It's not easy music to describe, but it's easy to appreciate it! Includes founders and driving forces Greg Tate and Jared Michael Nickerson, with sung and/or recited vocals by Maya Azucena, Lisala and Abby Dobson, guitars by Rene Akan, Andre Lassale and others, drums by Trevor Holder, Qasim Naqvi and others, violin by Mazz Swift, synth & percussion by Bruce Mack, piano by Vijay Iyer, trombone by David Smoota Smith, sax by Avram Fefer, Michael Veal and others, bass by Nickerson, Jason Di Matteo and others, with Tate on guitar, conduction and loops. Includes "The Cold Sweat Variations", "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)", "Burning Crosses", "The Guru's Lover", "Claudine", "Bliques Haff Moor Funn", "Whut Rough Beast" (a)", "Whut Rough Beast? (b)", "Blique Stratagems", "Throne Of Blood 33 1/3 (Encrypted Vernacular)" and "Blood Music". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
