CD (Item 595191) Liberty/Vocalion (UK), 1963/1966 — Condition: New Copy

Si Zentner in two modes – back to back albums from the mid 60s! First up is the lovely Desafinado – a set that has the trombonist hitting a great big band take on bossa nova – one that's surprisingly great overall, with some rich jazz charts penned by Bob Florence, who really helps make the whole thing sparkle! Zetner's horn is often wrapped up in additional trombones – a frontline that's smooth and gliding, and just right for the bossa rhythms underneath. Titles include "Goza Goza", "Desafinado", "Caravan", "Star Eyes", "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps", "Bernie's Tune", and "Oso Blanco". Swingin Country has Si Zentner taking on some of the big country themes of the 60s – aided by Sid Feller on arrangements, who makes things nice and lively – and comes up with a groove that's quite different than you might expect! In other words, the tunes are country, but the performance is more jazzy than anything else – often trombone-heavy, in the usual Zentner mode – on titles that include "King Of The Road", "Hurtin Heart", "Busted", "Born To Lose", "Almost Persuaded", and "Crazy".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
