Mystic Merlin runnin' at Sixty Thrills A Minute! It's a sweet ride, too, piloted by one of the best of the funky soul groups on Capitol. This one! As you might guess from the title, the record's got a bit more uptempo stuff than on their earlier album, and the band works incredibly well in this mode – moving briskly, but smoothly – and locked into unshakably solid grooves! Includes a couple of standouts tracks in "Goddess Of The Boogie" and "Haunting You (Crystal Ball)" – but the whole record is really nice! Other titles include" "Sixty Thrills A Minute", Sign Of the Times", "Monkey Love", "Hideaway", and "Get It For Yourself".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

All Night Long
Capitol, 1982. Very Good+
A great album of bass-heavy 80s groove tracks – and the second release by the oft-overlooked BB&Q Band! The record mixes up some nice keyboards with a spacey early breakdance sound, and they sound great over the group's tight rhythm, and surprisingly soulful vocals. The band was one of ... Hot Pants
Polydor, 1971. Very Good
A real killer from James Brown – and one of his most open-ended LPs of the early 70s! The record's got tracks that kind of go a lot further than those on many of James' other albums (except maybe Payback, which has loads of long cuts) – and it includes an extended 9 minute reading of ... Laura Lee
Hot Wax, 1972. Near Mint-
A standout set from the great Laura Lee – a deep soul singer with power to rival the greatness of Aretha Franklin, but one who's also got a funkier punch to her music too! The album's a great blend of late 60s female southern and tight 70s bad sister funk – a style that's a bit like ... LP, Vinyl record album
Prelude, 1978. Very Good+
A well-done set from Barbara Mason – one that's light years from her earlier soul work, and which takes her strongly into more mature territory! The approach is a bit Philly disco, a bit mellower soul – and the more laidback cuts actually work the best – bubbling along like a ... LP, Vinyl record album
