El Condor Pasa/LOVE
CD (Item 544575) Vocalion (UK), 1969/1971 — Condition: New Copy
2 sweet instrumental sets from Paul Mauriat – back to back on a single CD! El Condor Pasa is a warm batch of grooves from the early 70s – a record that's still very much in the best French-styled easy sound that made Mauriat huge on American charts for a bit a few years before! As with his previous records, this one has a style that's as soft as familiar instrumental modes, yet also a bit hipper too – kind of a touch of French sex in the mix – buried nicely in the background, amidst warm strings, bits of keyboards, and some nice electric bass – and some occasional breakout moments that almost get a bit funky, kind of in a Brazilian EMI/Odeon early 70s way. Titles include a great version of the Stelvio Cipriani tune "To Be The One You Love" – plus "Melancholy Man", "Black Harlem", "Tonta Gafa Y Boba", "Burning Bridges", "Lonely Days", and "Love Story". LOVE is a set that's got a wonderfully warm sound – and lots of those cool Paul Mauriat keyboard lines – played both on acoustic piano and harpsichord, plus some hip organ as well! The tunes are familiar, but they're re-arranged with some nice French hipness – and amidst the strings, there's often a slight funky undercurrent that's very cool – more than enough to show Paul's roots in the Euro easy scene of the 60s. Includes a great harpsichord version of "Silver Fingertips" – plus "Isadora's Theme", "Get Back", "You Love & Me", "Oh Happy Day", and "Un Jour Un Enfant". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
