Echoey pop from the Italian scene of the early 60s – a record that already sparkles with dynamic vocals from the legendary Mina – but which also has some great studio touches too! There's a lively, optimistic mix of modes going on here – electric guitar that rings out boldly next to the vocals, rhythms borrowed from rock and Latin, and all-out vocals from Mina – sung with the kind of power and charm that no American singer could touch! The whole thing's great – the kind of music you'd hear a pretty girl playing on her transistor radio in a Fellini film – and titles include "Ho Paura", "Personalita", "La Nonna Magdalena", "Il Cielo In Una Stanza", "Invoco Te", "Coriandoli", "Una Zebra A Pois", and "Pesci Rossi".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A real standout 70s set from Nina Simone – a one-off date for CTI Records, done with a sound that's different than her earlier work for RCA, Philips, and Colpix! The groove here is often as soul-based as it is vocal jazz – thanks to arrangements from David Matthews, who brings a ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the only two vocal jazz albums that the Blue Note label ever recorded – and a haunting batch of tracks from a young Sheila Jordan! Amazing music from Laurance Vanay – actually a recording name for Jacqueline Thibault, a hell of a great keyboardist but an artist the label thought would be better off billed as a man! The sound here is halfway between the spacey experiments of Brian Eno and Cluster, and some of the more ... LP, Vinyl record album

Finders Keepers (UK), 1976. New Copy
Strange and incredible mid 70s atmospherics from Jean-Pierre Massiera – dark atmospherics that roll from heady psych rock to cerebral funk and proggy dynamics – taken to a far deeper dimension thanks to Massiera's hypnotic use of tape samples and layered vocal errata! It's amazing how ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funky breaks and fuzzy guitars – one of the most amazing albums to come out of the Turkish scene of the 70s – and one with a sound that really defies categorization! CBS/Lion, 1977. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
An album of fragile beauty and buried darkness – in a space that's somewhere between the work of Nico and Brigitte Fontaine, but a fair bit sweeter overall!
