Funky Superfly – His Greatest Hits (3 x 7" single box set)
7-inch (Item 474785) R&R/Jazzman (UK), 1974 — Condition: New Copy
One of THE all-time indie funk classics of the 70s – the standout LP by Bobby Williams, an obscure James Brown-styled vocalist with a really great sound! The style here cops plenty from JB at his funkiest – but that's A-OK with us, because Bobby gets that sound so completely right – and the raw production of the album make the record sound a good deal grittier than most of The Godfather's more mainstream records from the time. There's a hard-jamming quality to most of the numbers, with lots of tight horns, fast-romping rhythms, and calls from Bobby out to the band – who are more than happy to respond to his groove – and given the overall sharpness of the music, it's amazing that Williams wasn't at the top of the 70s soul charts with music this great. New reissue features full Jazzman quality notes on the music – and the original cover art of the rare Fan Club pressing of the album! Triple 7" single package features 3 45s – with one track that isn't on the CD version! Titles include "Funky Superfly (parts 1 & 2)", "Let's Jam", "Let's Work A While", "All The Time", and "Darling Here Is My Heart". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
