I Wake Up Screaming (plus download)
LP (Item 574693) Strut, 2011 — Condition: New Copy
Wow! I Wake Up Screaming is the first all new album in about a decade from Kid Creole & The Coconuts – and it just may be the best work by the legendary August Darnell (as Kid Creole) in nearly thrice that long! Never an easy act to pin down, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, in their prime, fused calypso and otherwise tropically-toasted soul, funk and disco brilliantly – thanks in large part to strong, slyly witty songwriting, and the outsized charisma of Darnell. I Wake Up Screaming is impressive for resurrecting that inimitable personality so strongly, but also for the great songs– which range from seedy, charming humor to genuinely soulful emotion – not an easy balance, but Kid Creole pulls it off really well! A late gem from a cat who deserves more kudos. Vinyl version includes 12 tracks on 2LPs: "Stony And Cory", "Verily Verily Verily", "Somebody's Got To Lose", "I Do Believe", "I Wake Up Screaming (In The Tropics)", "Long Live The King", "Attitude", "Tudor-Jones"., "We're Rockin' Out Tonight", "This Is My Life", "Blow Me Up" and "Love Remains". (Vinyl version includes code for full album download.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
