A stone classic from Switch – one of Motown's leading hopes in the early 80s soul scene, and for good reason too! These guys have a wonderfully well-rounded approach – great on ballads and even more compelling on groovers – a balance here that puts them proudly in the company of contemporaries like Maze or Slave, with a sound that's sometimes right in the middle of both. We love the mellow cuts especially, as they really give the group a chance to show off their vocal chops – and singers include both Bobby and Tommy DeBarge. Titles include "Keep Movin On", "Get Back With You", "Don't Take My Love Away", "I Finally Found Someone New", and "My Friend In the Sky". Atlantic, 1975. Very Good-
The third album from Black Heat – and quite possibly the funkiest of the bunch – thanks to an even tighter sound than before, and lots of emphasis on the bottom of the groove! The group's got a few more members than before, but their sound is somehow even leaner – a really tight ... LP, Vinyl record album

King, 1970. Very Good-
Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... LP, Vinyl record album
