We have to admit, we didn't know much of Prince Alla's work until this reissue compilation came out. While he may be less well known than many of the purveyors of roots rock, this compilation bringing together tracks cut with the Soul Syndicate produced mostly by Bertram Brown for the Freedom Sounds label shows he clearly deserves wider recognition. Lyrically he's cut from the same cloth as Yabby You, while carving out a sound that's all his own, and borrows less heavily from some of the North American soul acts others followed after. 14 tracks, including "Black Rose", "Youthman in the Ghetto", "Bucket Bottom" & "I Don't Want to be Late". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
