Love the groove here – a very unique take on harmony soul, and one that's steeped in jazzy roots, but carried off with a classy 80s groove! Credit really goes to group member Augie Johnson, who also produced the whole thing – getting this great mix of soul and funky fusion put together perfectly – all with these complicated elements that really push the vocal parts past any obvious territory – a wicked sound that really sets Side Effect apart from the rest. Miki Howard's leads are bold and proud, but the male harmonies are a key component of the record too – and the whole thing's got just the right blend of polish and soul to keep Side Effect a favorite of ours for many years. Titles include "Take Me As I Am", "My Way", "Attitudes", "You Can Do It", "Music Is My Way Of Life", "Forever My Love", and "I Want To". (White label promo. Cover has a promo stamp and sticker.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Elektra, 1979. Very Good
Jazzy soul all the way through – and a great little album from Lenny White and the Twennynine combo – a group that features some especially great keyboards from the great Don Blackman! An amazing record! This one's probably our favorite Isley Brothers album of all time – and it's a perfect blend of all the styles they were into at the time – heavy funk, sweet soul, folksy rock, and rolling uptempo grooves! The Brothers handle all styles equally well, and the album's ... LP, Vinyl record album

The very first album from Michael Henderson – but a set that already finds him very much at the top of his game – thanks to previous work with Miles Davis and Norman Connors! Both artists gave Henderson a chance to do different things with his music, and by the time of this record, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Buddah, 1975. Very Good+ Gatefold
A classic album by this righteous soul collective – and one that shows them taking a strong step away from their work at RCA with Harvey Fuqua. Our favorite album ever from Roland Kirk – and a beautiful mix of two different sides of his genius! Side one's got Roland doing these crazy takes on late 60's pop cuts like "My Cherie Amour" and "Say a Little Prayer", plus his own "songs", done with soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album
