Love the groove here – a very unique take on harmony soul, and one that's steeped in jazzy roots, but carried off with a classy 80s groove! Credit really goes to group member Augie Johnson, who also produced the whole thing – getting this great mix of soul and funky fusion put together perfectly – all with these complicated elements that really push the vocal parts past any obvious territory – a wicked sound that really sets Side Effect apart from the rest. Miki Howard's leads are bold and proud, but the male harmonies are a key component of the record too – and the whole thing's got just the right blend of polish and soul to keep Side Effect a favorite of ours for many years. Titles include "Take Me As I Am", "My Way", "Attitudes", "You Can Do It", "Music Is My Way Of Life", "Forever My Love", and "I Want To". (White label promo. Cover has a promo stamp and sticker.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Gamble, 1973. Very Good
A classic album from this incredible Philly soul group! The Intruders were one of the first groups to work with the Gamble/Huff team – and their sides for the team from the 60s have an amazingly professional approach to harmony soul, never afraid to hit a good hook or go for a strong image ... Arista, 1977. Very Good+
The second album by this legendary 70s funk combo – best known as Herbie Hancock's backing band, but sounding great here on their own. The album's much more of a solid soul effort than the first one – which was great, but felt more like Herbie had stepped out of the studio for a minute ... LP, Vinyl record album
