Soul On Soul (with bonus tracks)
CD (Item 591380) Calla/BBE (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
A treasure trove of deep soul, Northern groovers, and funky numbers from the mighty Jean Wells – easily one of the most accomplished soul singers of her time! Jean's got a voice that knocks it right out of the park, right away – a style that burns deeply on the mellow cuts, and soars to the heavens on the groovers – and she works here with impeccable production from Clyde Otis, who always seems to know just the right way to bring out the best in a singer like Wells. But even more notable is the fact that Jean wrote a good number of tunes here herself – quite unusual for a female soul singer of her generation – and an aspect that makes the collection especially noteworthy as a documents of the deep talents shown by Wells while recording these sides for the Calla label. Titles include "I Feel Good", "Broomstick Horse Cowboy", "Ease Away A Little Bit At A Time", "Sit Down & Cry", "Have A Little Mercy", "After Loving You", "Roll Up Your Sleeves Come Out Lovin", "He Ain't Doing Bad", and "Hello Baby Goodbye Too". This version of the collection adds in a few more bonus tracks – the previously unreleased numbers "Daddy Reconsider", "I Want To Live", and "Ordinary Woman"! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
