Certainly one of the lesser sorts of soul soundtracks that you'll find, and an easily overlooked Roberta Flack record consisting of tracks for this low-budget comedy with Cicely Tyson and Richard Pryor. The music's mostly in an electric modern soul vein – even the instrumental bits – and arrangements are by Barry Miles, Marcus Miller, Buddy Williams, and Roberta herself – who also produced the album. Titles include "Love (Always Commands)", "Lovin You (Is Such An Easy Thing To Do)", "Rollin On", "Qual E Malindrinho", and "Hittin Me Where It Hurts".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

MCA, 1979. Very Good+
A dancefloor soul classic – one of the strongest albums ever by Al Hudson, Alicia Meyers, and the whole One Way crew! The record's got a sweet soulful feel that provides a nice counterpoint to its bass-heavy grooves – popping along at that midtempo pace that was Al's popular remedy for ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet sweet groover from Klique – with a sound that more than makes us forgive them for their silly costumes on the cover! The tunes on the set have a wonderfully simple approach to the groove – one that you might not expect from the group's glossy image, but which is served up here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Heat
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good
A searing debut from Black Heat – one of the best funk acts to record for Atlantic during the 70s, and a tight little group with a sound that's a mixture of New Orleans funk and New York heavy! The album's got a bit of vocals – figuring in on about half the tracks – but the main ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ear Wax/Wonderland, Late 70s. Sealed
An obscure little funky group from Detroit, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! ... Low Rent Rendezvous
Atlantic, 1975. Very Good+
The second chapter in a mighty 70s trilogy from Ace Spectrum – a killer set recorded for Atlantic Records, and easily some of the best group soul issued by the label in the decade! Ace Spectrum change things up a bit here from the obvious – hitting a variety of modes that move between ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aware, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Quite possibly the most righteous work ever from The Counts – a move away from the heavier funk of their Westbound years, and a shift into some great jazz-based material! The vibe here draws heavily on the electric keyboard scene of the early 70s – with echoes of Lonnie Liston Smith's ... LP, Vinyl record album
