CD (Item 548957) Skipper Productions, 2010 — Condition: New Copy

An incredible record – a set that sparkles with all the brilliance and soulful energy we first came to love in Henry Franklin's music back in the 70s! The album's a recent one, but it's got a timeless quality – rich grooves, filled with modal rhythms – soaring to the skies with searching, spiritual vibrations – wonderfully righteous, and the kind of record we could easily believe was a lost gem from a few decades back! The horn work is great – trumpet from Gilbert Castellanos and Nolan Shaheed, and tenor and soprano sax from Chuck Manning – all players who really help shape a beautiful spirit for the record – over bold rhythms from Franklin on bass, Ramon Banda on drums, and Theo Saunders on piano. Mon David and Karen Wilson sing a bit on the record – the former doing some especially great wordless lines on a version of Wayne Shorter's "Mahjong"! Other cuts include "Swala", "Open Spaces", "Driting", "Mama Lela", and "Shamal".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
