A killer batch of tracks from this young Swiss trumpeter – with a sound and style that recalls the best spacey jazz funk moments of the 70s! This is an all-instrumental US Blue Note release that combines the instrumental tracks from Truffaz's French Blue Note albums Bending New Corners and The Dawn, plus a few that appear to be instrumental remixes of tunes that originally contained a rapper. Truffaz is one of our favorite new talents – and he's got a sound that's a mix of Eddie Henderson and electric Miles Davis, and the records feature some excellent Fender Rhodes work backing him up. Titles include "The Dawn", "Bending New Corners", "Betty", "And", "The Mask", and "Arroyo". (Out of print. Digipack has some edge wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Excellent modern jazz funk from one of Europe's best young players! Erik Truffaz has a cool 70s spacey trumpet style – like Freddie Hubbard's best CTI work, or like the classic Eddie Henderson moments with the Herbie crew. He's playing here with a tight little quartet that includes Patrick ... CD

One of the most solid records we've ever heard from drummer Stanton Moore – and a set that's got to be his greatest jazz session to date! Moore's still got all the playful kick he brought to his drums during more funk-based years – but he's working here in a trio with the wonderful ... CD

A stunner – the first full album by deep funk singer Sharon Jones, and an instant soul masterpiece! The album's right up there with the best work by James Brown divas like Marva Whitney, Vicki Anderson, and Lyn Collins – and overall, we might dare say that the album's even better than ... CD

Although we've been fans of Andy Bey for years (ever since his early 60s recordings with Andy & The Bey Sisters), we've got to admit that we're stunned at how successful his recent revival has been! This CD is probably the main reason for Andy's success – as it's a compelling batch of ... CD

Booker Little & Friend
Bethlehem/Avenue, 1961. Used
A fantastic sextet session recorded in 1961, shortly before Booker Little's death – and filled with all the promise and power he ever packed into his playing! There's a sharp, angular groove to many of the numbers here – that mix of modern and hardbop that was cresting best in the ... CD
