A treasure trove of bebop – all the early recordings made by Sonny Stitt for Prestige Records, finally compiled into one comprehensive set! The recordings here span only a period of 4 years, but there's a lifetime's worth of great music in the grooves – key sides that helped define the bop idiom at the end of the 40s – and push a new level of expression into the music. Stitt's always been one of those players who never gets his due as strongly as Bird, Miles, Diz, and others from the time – but hearing these tracks, there's an amazing amount of depth to the music – a careful sense of emotion one minute, searing burst of soul the next, and nascent modernism after that. The package mends years of scattered releases of these tracks – and finally brings together all these early recordings in one place, tied together even more firmly with liner notes by Harvey Pekar! All material is remastered, and package includes a handful of alternate takes along with the master versions – more than 70 titles in all, a real deal at this price!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
