Qat, Coffee, & Qambus – Raw 45s From YemenVarious
LP (Item 596176) Parlortone, Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
Rare 45s from Yemen – rawly, though crystal clear in both sound and emotion – a real eye-opener of a set compiled by Chris Menist! We've had little chance to hear Yemeni music of this period or any other – and judging from this set, these are sounds we want to explore and experience. Yearning ballads with clattering percussion, equally enthralling vocal numbers accompanied by handclaps and female backup vocals, melodies and rhythms from oud and other instrumentation. Very nicely done! Includes "Ya Mun Dakhal Bahr Al-Hawa (Hey, Who Enters The Sea Of Passion?)" by Fatimah Al-Zaelaeyah, "Raee Al-Gamel (The Owner Of Beauty)" by Ahmed Al Aoneedar, "Bellah Alek Wa Mosafer (Hey You, Passenger!)" by Ayob Absi, "Haya Abu-Saif (Welcome Saif's Father)" by Amna Hizam, "Amsi Sameer Al-Nojoom (Night Stars Watcher)" by Ahmad Al-Harazi and more. (Includes a great foldout insert with notes and color photos.) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
