Monster Mash/Scary Tales (with bonus tracks)
CD (Item 626422) Cameo/Real Gone, Mid 60s — Condition: New Copy
Two wild Halloween records by John Zacherle – back to back on a single CD! Monster Mash features Zacherle's competent cover of the hit – but sparkles even more with a host of original material done for the album – tracks written by Kal Mann and Dave Appell, most of which have a cool rock/horror sort of theme – upbeat "Monster Mash"-styled rhythms, with lots of Dracula-inspired vocals from John – a whole album full of groovy novelty tunes that includes some great take-offs on other hits on the Cameo/Parkway label! Titles include the hit "Dinner With Drac (part 1)", plus "Gravy (With Some Cyanide", "Popeye (The Gravedigger)", "Hurry Bury Baby", "Let's Twist Again (Mummy Time Is Here)", "I'm The Ghoul From Wolverton Mountain", and "Weird Watusi". Scary Tales features a weird mix of horror-fied kids stories, and offbeat covers – plus a few original cuts too – all sung by John Zacherley in the monster movie-inspired character he'd developed for local TV in Philly! The approach is pretty great – and makes for quite a strong Halloween classic – the sort of record you don't normally find done this well! Titles include "ABC", "The Spider & The Fly", "Scary Tales", "Hansel & Gretel", "Happy Halloween", and "Monster Monkey". CD features 4 bonus tracks too – "Dinner With Drac (part 2)", "Scary Tales (version two)", "Scary Tales (version 3)", and "Igor". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
