CD (Item 430530) Do Right (Canada), 2006 -- Condition: New Copy

An incredible record from one of the freshest talents we've heard in years -- singer/pianist Elizabeth Shepherd, an artist with a nearly timeless talent! In a world of Starbucks-era fake torch vocalists, Shepherd reminds us what jazz singing is really about -- creative invention on the vocals, and a sense of free-flowing imagination that comes through from the very first note of her tunes! Instrumentation here is just piano, bass, and drums -- but played in a super-funky way that reminds us of rare small label funk gems from the 70s -- stretching out and soaring with a sound that's incredibly soulful. On top of these grooves, Elizabeth pens her own lyrics -- sometimes to compositions by other jazz artists, often to her own wonderful tunes -- all in a sound that's incredibly hip and never cloying -- a real gem of a record that should set a whole new standard for her generation! (And Starbucks, you'd better keep your hands off this one!) Titles include "Start To Move", "Roots", "Four", "Circles", "Reversed", "Melon", "Ton Visage", "Along The Way", and "Just Getting By".  © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
