Beginners Guide To Lounge & Exotica (3CD set)Various
CD (Item 596985) Nascente (UK), Late 50s/1960s — Condition: New Copy
Way more than just a beginners guide – because there's plenty here to please our ears, and they've been feasting on exotic sounds for decades! The package is nicely divided into three different categories – each of them offering up a great variation on the rich array of other-worldly sounds that sprung forth in the American recording scene of the postwar years! CD 1 is Exotic Exotica – and features imaginative musical modes that take off from a south seas style in really great ways. Titles include "Honorable Hong Kong Rock" by The Out Islanders, "Jungle Madness" by Martin Denny, "Atlantis" by Les Baxter, "Wimoweh" by Yma Sumac, "Lust" by Bas Sheva, "The Girlfriend Of The Whirling Dervish" by Martin Denny, and "Dr No's Fantasy" by Elliott Fisher. CD 2 features Cool Cats & Kitsch Covers – a set of tunes that brings together some of the pop Latin and other rhythmic modes showing up in late 50s/early 60s music – with cuts that include "Down In Mexico" by Ella Mae Morse, "Man With The Golden Arm" by Billy May, "Mas Que Nada" by Rubin Mitchell, "Peter Gunn Theme" by Jack Costanzo, "Rock Umba" by Ray Anthony, "Mission Impossible" by Billy May, and "Manana" by DeCastro Sisters. CD 3 features Latin Swingers – not straight Latin cuts, but tunes that borrow elements, then move things into a pop crossover mode – like "El Combanchero" by Don Swan, "Cubanao Chant" by Martin Denny, "Malambo No 1" by Yma Sumac, "Latin Fever" by Jack Costanzo, "So Danco Samba" by Wanda De Sah, "Cumana" by Henri Rose & Bobby Stevenson, "Chihuaha" by Luis Olivera & His Bandodala Boys, and "Mambo Jambo" by Dave Barbour. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
