CD (Item 488185) Plastic Strip Press (Norway), Mid 70s — Condition: New Copy

The combination of folk roots and jazz-based instrumentation – a style that only flourished briefly in the US at the start of the 60s, but one that got much greater play in later years on the Scandinavian scene! This ultra-cool collection offers a great look at the genre from a Norwegian perspective – put together from some key 70s recordings in the folk jazz mode – really rare sides that we'd never had a chance to hear otherwise! There's a bit of vocals in the mix at times, but these are usually in Norwegian, and as such, tend to disappear to ears like ours alongside the instrumentation – almost acting as an additional sonic element, and one that makes the music sound even groovier than we might have expected. Players on the dates include Knut Riisnaes on flute and soprano sax, Terje Rypdal on guitars, Harald Gundhus on tenor, Lars Martin Thomassen on flugelhorn and trumpet, Bengt Hallberg on piano, Bjorn Alterhaug on bass, Nils Tro on tenor, Arne Domnerus on alto and clarinet, and Rune Gustafsson on guitar – and titles include "Samse Tak" and Palevise" by Egil Bop Johansen, "Jeg Lagde Meg Sa Silde" by Egil Kaptstad, "Sautrall Etter Gurin Hansen Alvdal" by Anne Karine Tonset & Harald Gundhus, "Pols Etter Martinius Helgesen" by Osterdalsmusikk, "Setermorgen" by Helge Hurum Birgitte Grimstad, "Over Berg Og Dalar" by Arne Domnerus, "Hu Hei Kor Er Det Vel Friskt Og Lett Oppa Fjellet" by Roy Hellvin, "Halling No 2 Etter Martinus Helgesen Stor Elvdal" by Soyr, and "Ja Vi Alskar" by Arne Domnerus.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
