CD (Item 601361) MGM/Verve (Japan), 1949/1950 — Condition: New Copy

Classic early work from George Shearing – the MGM sides that first made American audiences sit up and take notice of his mighty talents and cool new sound on the piano! The classic Shearing style is already in full effect here – a sublime blend of spacious piano lines, gentle vibes, and moody guitar – all years ahead of their time in terms of subtlety and understatement. Vibes are handled by Marjorie Hyamas, and guitar by Chuck Wayne – and the quintet's completed by John Levy on bass and Denzil Best on drums. CD features 24 tracks in all – far more than the original 50s LP on the cover image – and titles include "Rosea Of Picardy", "I'll Remember April", "The Breeze & I", "In A Chinese Garden", "Jumpin With Symphony Sid", "Conception", "Move", "For You", "As Long As There's Music", "Nothing But D Best", "Good To The Last Bop", "November Escape", "How's Trix", and "Little White Lies".
