This album is Merle Haggard's tribute to Bob Wills, the king of Western Swing. There are several of Wills own songs included in the track list and others that are simply in the Western Swing vein. Some of the titles are "Right Or Wrong", "Brown Skinned Gal", "Misery", "Roly Poly", "Old Fashioned Love", and "Take Me Back To Tulsa". The Strangers sound great and as usual Hag's voice is super; he gets to do a bit of yodeling. (Cover has a cutout hole.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

One of Hag's stellar early 70s efforts for Capitol – with the prolific Merle dividing the set between his own numbers, a handful of traditional pieces and some nice tracks by other writers. Hag also strays from the straight honky tonk he pioneered in the late 60s into some gospel and ... LP, Vinyl record album
