A great batch of rare gospel tracks – served up with plenty of soul, and mostly in the great group harmony mode that often crosses over to the secular side of the spectrum! Most of these tracks are mighty raw – making the set feel almost more like a deep soul compilation than a spiritual one – and the music's delivered in a great 10" package that's almost as lovely as the sounds on the vinyl! Titles include "Clouds Hanging Low" by The Missionaries, "You Better Mind" by The Skylifters, "This May Be The Last Time" by Missionary Mamie Sample, "The Lord Will Make A Way" by The Sensational Six, and "My Lord & I" by The Willenette Gospel Singers.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mississippi, 1920s/1930s. New Copy
Very early gospel work from Washington Phillips – a spiritual singer, but one who works in a style that's a lot more blues-based than later proponents of the genre! The style here is relatively spare – mostly just Washington's vocals and a bit of guitar or piano – the latter of ... LP, Vinyl record album

A soul record we'd put up there with some of our favorite ones that the city of Chicago produced in the early 70s – and it's literally a soul record – a beautiful gospel set by Pastor TL Barrett & The Youth For Christ Choir, of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, on the city's south side! ... LP, Vinyl record album

Otis Johnson may well be the Timmy Thomas of gospel music – as here, he's working with just spare organ lines and rhythm machine – in a way that gives most of these tracks the raw, personal feel of Timmy's classic "Why Can't We Live Together"! Stag O Lee (Germany), 1950s. New Copy
A sweet little set that looks like a vintage 78rpm recording, but which is actually a full collection of vintage gospel – with a strong focus on bold voices and rich harmonies throughout! The package is put together with the same great ear as the R&B sets on the Stag-O-Lee label – ... LP, Vinyl record album

You might need to be a Diddley diehard to know it, given the pretty hokey early 60s Beach Party cover photo – get past that and what you'll find is a rowdy, rumbling and completely incredible live album from Bo! Bossa nova and blues? Turns out they're a surprisingly great combination – but not in a mode that's really the more mainstream conception of either – and instead more of that mix of Brazilian rhythms and soul you'd find in early 60s work by The Drifters! The record's a real standout ... LP, Vinyl record album

A really amazing project – and a totally righteous little record – a set of songs all penned by Bob Dylan in the 60s, sung by a hip spiritual choir that includes performances from soul singers Clydie King, Merry Clayton, Edna Wright, and Gloria Jones! The mix of soul and gospel here is ... LP, Vinyl record album
