LP (Item 618122) Poppy, Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
Great sounds from Mandrake Memorial – a record that's almost post-psych in its approach – in that it wraps together a host of beautiful elements from the 60s, but in a way that's got a leaner feel that almost makes it more sinister in the end! The balance is hard to describe in words – but there's almost a melancholy feel to the record that makes the keyboards and fuzzy guitar sound even more offbeat, even when moving in subtle ways – a bit like that shift that the Velvet Underground made when doing less instead of more in the post-White Light years. There's a bit of modulator on the record – which adds these cool electronic touches – and the vocals of Michael Kac are wonderfully unique – somewhere in a space between Tom Rapp and Tim Buckley, but very much their own thing too.
