CD (Item 434760) Creole Stream (Japan), 1974 — Condition: New Copy

A really great bit of Caribbean funk – recorded in the Bahamas in the mid 70s, with a sound that's halfway between Miami and Kingston! The rhythms here are quite unusual – sometimes in the chunky mode of rocksteady work from a few years before, but at others with a skittish sort of groove that's almost like a soul-based version of The Beginning Of The End. Added to the mix are Jay's great vocals – raspy and broken down, really coming across with a heck of a lot of soul – especially on the few mellower numbers, which sound like vintage bits of southern soul. But we'll be honest in saying that the funkier tunes here are our favorites – and they all have a heavy sound and gritty groove that makes them come off like the kind of tracks you'd love to find on original funky 45s! Titles include "Black Girl", "Rip Off Brother", "Goombay Bump", "Who's That In My Bed", "Your Mama Again", "I'm So All Alone", and "When Will It End". CD also features 2 bonus tracks – "Mike" and "Funky Fever", the last of which is a blistering barrage of funky beats and wah wah guitar!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
