Manhattan Tower (Decca)
LP (Item 45207) Decca, Early 50s -- Condition: Very Good
One of the most important modernist expressions of the city! Gordon Jenkins' Manhattan Tower is a wonder -- an extended narrative work about a guy who moves to, discovers, falls in love with and in New York City. The music's a bit flowery, but the narration is fantastic -- lifted right out of some late 40s film like The Naked City. It's backed here by "California", another extended work with a similar feel -- and a lot like Mel Torme's "California Suite", we might add, which was first done by Mel as an answer to Jenkins' love of New York. (Black & gold label pressing with a deep groove. Cover is in nice shape.) © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | ||||||
