Henry Mancini takes it to the next level – working with larger orchestrations than usual, in an expansion of his usual 60s groove! The tracks here are all somewhat long – suite-type numbers made up from smaller songs wrapped together in new Mancini arrangements that have a really cool feel in this setting! The orchestra is somewhat large, with strings and woodwinds – but in true Mancini fashion, there's also key solos from players who include Pete Candoli and Conrad Gozzo on trumpet, Dick Nash on trombone, Ted Nash on alto sax, and Jimmy Rowles on piano. Titles include "Peter Gunn Meets Mr Lucky", "The Music Of David Rose", "Academy Award Selections", and "A Tribute To Victor Young".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Although Jo Basile made some snoozier albums for Audio Fidelity, this one for Columbia's a gem, and has a great groovy jet-set swingin' feel to it. Jo plays accordian and vibes, and he also arranges the whole thing with a nice tight sound. Tracks include versions of "Man & A Woman", ... LP, Vinyl record album

TV's Greatest Detective Hits
Mercury, 1976. Near Mint-
Excellent work from Brit easy bandleader John Gregory – an assortment of 70s police and crime themes, played by a big band with a nice soundtrack-y finish! Nearly all the tunes are uptempo, and the feel of the record is very much in the same vein as Henry Mancini's Cop Show Themes album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ports Of Pleasure
Capitol, 1957. Very Good-
A dreamy exploration of south sea ideals from the great Les Baxter – a set that's got a more lightly drifting quality than some of his more percussive exotica albums, and which is awash in dreamy soundscapes penned by Les himself! The orchestrations are large and bold throughout – ... LP, Vinyl record album
