Chico didn't cut too many sides for Epic – but there was a short period, between his stints with Pacific Jazz and Impulse were he did a few sessions with the label. The quintet here is the group with a cellist, in this case Nate Gershman, plus guitar, bass and Charles Lloyd on flute and alto, who sounds particularly nice on this outing. As always, Chico's light dancing on the drums and sock cymbal gives the sides a wonderful swinging fee – with just the right amount of drive to keep things cooking but never overpowering the spacious approach of the quintet. Titles include "Don't Get Lost", "Autumn Leaves", "New Rhumba" and "Ladybird". (Columbia Special Products pressing. Cover has light wear and a bit of marker on front.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A&M, 1973. Very Good+
A really great, oft-overlooked album from the best period of Quincy Jones!
