Excellent work from Hodges – soloing beautifully on a set of standard Gershwin tunes, over wonderfully warm arrangements by Russ Garcia, in the best manner of the Verve "with strings" style. Hodges was a monster soloist in this kind of setting – hitting a sound and level of emotion that rivaled the Ben Webster sessions of the same nature on Verve. Titles include "Summertime", "Soon", "Somebody Loves Me", "But Not For Me", and a fantastic reading of "The Man I Love". (Out of print, includes obi.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Pure genius from Bud Powell's mid 50s run for Verve Records – some of his sharpest-edged recordings of the decade! Despite the "blue" feeling of the title, there's a very lively sound going on here – one that's often crackling with strong rhythmic impulses, and which displays ... CD

Given that Chick Corea first got his start working in the New York Latin scene back in the 60s, the album's a bit of a return to his roots – even if the general theme here is Spanish, and not Afro-Cuban! The Corea Spanish Heart here is cast in some darker, more contemplative tones than more ... CD
