Aretha's grooving sweetly on a record that's produced by Luther Vandross – and a damn strong one, too! Aretha wasn't the first, or the last classic soul singer to embrace the modern sounds of the early 80s, but relatively few outshined their younger peers as brilliantly as Aretha does here. She's great on this one! There's plenty of space in the arrangements for Aretha to do her thing – emoting naturally, improvising some of the vocals, and really just knocking it out of the park. Luther's production shows ample love and respect for the previous generation of soul, while still sounding right at home in '82 – with some timeless ballads along with contemporary chart-ready groovers. Titles include "Jump To It", "Love Me Right", "If She Don't Want Your Lovin'", "This Is For Real", "It's Just Your Love", "I Want To Make It Up To You" and "It's Just Your Thing". (Includes the printed inner sleeve. Back cover has a name in marker.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Love All The Hurt Away
Arista, 1981. Very Good
An early 80s gem from Aretha Franklin – one of the best of her years at Arista Records, thanks to solid help in the studio from the mighty Arif Mardin! Mardin's in perfect form here – the same blend of older soul and jazzier, more sophisticated styles that he was also bringing to Chaka ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha's Gold
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Hard to believe that in a few short years at Atlantic, Aretha Franklin could come up with a full LP's worth of material to be deemed "gold" for this 1969 compilation – but that's definitely the case, as if these tunes didn't all make gold record status at the time, they're certainly ... Unlock The Funk
Arista, 1980. Very Good+
The only album ever from Locksmith – a group you might also know for their classic backing work on a few Grover Washington albums of the 70s! This set's got the lineup grooving strongly on their own – in an upbeat blend of jazz, funk, and soul that often has the group's deft ... LP, Vinyl record album

Juicy
Arista, 1982. Very Good+
An 80s soul classic – and one of those records that never seems to get old! The set's the first album from Juicy – recorded when they were more of a group than a studio duo, and working here with production from Deodato – who gives their sound some nice jazzy touches! That's no ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hot Live & Otherwise
Arista, 1981. Very Good+ 2LP
Great early 80s work from Dionne Warwick – mostly recorded live, with a slightly looser feel than some of her studio sets of the time! The double-length set features three sides live, and an additional set of studio material – and the live tracks are possibly the greatest in the bunch ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shirley Brown
Arista, 1977. Near Mint-
A great non-Stax album from Memphis soul singer Shirley Brown – recorded for Arista, but with all the depth and feeling of her indie work! Shirley's wonderfully teamed here with songwriter Bettye Crutcher –one of the best second generation talents at Stax, and writer with a great way ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sex & The Single Man
Arista, 1985. Sealed
Ray Parker's definitely a single man at this point in his career – leaving behind his earlier role in the Raydio group, and working here as writer and producer on a string of 80s hits! The album follows strongly in the catchy, crossover mode of Parker's work from the middle part of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Magic
Atco, 1974. Very Good
The start of a tremendous run from Blue Magic – easily one of the greatest harmony groups of the 70s, a quintet we'd place in a rare class with heavy hitters like The Stylistics or The Moments! The album's smooth and sweet, but never slick – perfectly arranged by the great Norman ... LP, Vinyl record album
