CD (Item 473407) Ubiquity, 2008 — Condition: New Copy
There's a suitcase on the cover, and that's a good tipoff to the sound of this one – a globe's worth of funky grooves – all courtesy of maestro Shawn Lee! The album really takes off from Lee's previous projects – and the tunes here borrow heavily from a world of different music – bits of Afro Funk, Eastern exotica, Mediterranean magic, and more – all wrapped around the kind of funk-heavy rhythms we've come to love in Shawn's Ping Pong Orchestra projects for Ubiquity! Like the previous efforts, this one's got a tightly focused, no-nonsense quality – one that almost reminds us of the best 70s sound library funk recordings – but touched slightly with the range of different cultural influences promised in the title. Tracks include "Greekout", "Bathtub Dub", "Mela D", "Punjabi Lullaby", "Brazilian Bubble", "Lagos Calling", "Tokyo Dancer", and "Phoenix Firebird". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
