CD (Item 378963) Popular African Music (Germany), 1970s/1980s — Condition: New Copy

Classic Guinean dance music from the 70s and 80s! Balla et Ses Balladins were one of the country's most popular bands and this CD makes it easy to hear why. Traditional Mande melodies are set to slinky, irresistible Afro-Cuban grooves that simmer rather than burn and Latin style horn charts, with great, rhythmically sophisticated, soulful vocals by Manfila Kante. Over an airy bed of swaying polyrhythms electric guitar and bass deliver tightly woven, bubbly lines that give the music a special lilt. There are also plenty of sublime guitar solos courtesy of Ibrahima Kouyate and Sekou Diabate "Docteur", cousin of "Diamond Fingers" of Bembeya Jazz National. This CD includes their complete 1980 album Objectif Perfection along with four stunners from 1970. Includes two very different versions of their classic "Sara" along with tunes like "Bambo", "Paulette", "Assa", and "Sakhodougou".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
