CD (Item 611766) Omni (Australia), 1968/1969 — Condition: New Copy

Late 60s greatness from Grandpa Jones – a blazing banjo picker, songwriter and passionate interpreter of the best the country-folk songbook – so much more than just that hammy feller on kitschy TV shows! This great overview of his late 60s recordings from Omni puts together a couple of strong Monument LPs – Everybody's Grandpa and Sings Hits From Hee Haw. It's remarkable stuff, with Jones tearing it up on banjo and singing with truth and passion, not playing a hokey character. It also includes select Monument recordings from the late 60s and into the early 70s – and Jones is backed by the best players in Nashville – including Merle Travis, Harold Bradley, The Glaser Brothers, Pig Robbins, The Anita Kerr Singers and others. 32 tracks in all: "Are You From Dixie?", "The Banjo Am The Instrument", "Heart Full Of Love", "Night Train To Memphis", "Trouble In Mind", "Coal Camp", "Baby-O", "That's All This Old World Needs", "Here I Am Making Plans", "Nashville On My Mind", "Pretty Little Devilish Mary", "A Dollar Short", "Deep Dark Corner Of My Mind", "  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
