Twin-bass magic from Peter Ind and Rufus Reid – two players who always stand out in a group setting, and who work their instruments together here beautifully! The album's an unusual meeting of both players – especially as Ind wasn't recording often at this time, and Reid hardly ever gets to cut a session like this – but apart from the unusual aspect of the date, it's also a real treat musically, too – as the players shift back and forth effortlessly between rhythm and melody – swinging a set of jazz standards with a fresh approach that's also quite soulful, too – always pretty darn groovy, and never the sort of experiment for experiment's sake that might otherwise make a record like this sound cold.
