The hypnotic Valley Tangents from Blues Control – essentially the duo of keyboardist and percussionist Lea Cho and guitarist, synth player and tape manipulator Russ Waterhouse! They roll from timeless art rock instrumentalism that's reminiscent of early 70s pioneers – to some tape effects and other touches that are more profoundly contemporary. It's a lot more dexterously musical than a lot of the self-conciously experimental acts in the post-millenium landscape – a facet that puts Blues Control closer the originators of proggy-noisy acts than many of later revisionists. Great stuff! They get a bit of percussion assistance by Tatsuya Nakatani on "Iron Pigs", and other titles include "Love's A Rondo", "Walking Robin", "Open Air" and "Gypsum".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

An excellent second album from the Belfi/Grubbs/Pilia trio – with a more strongly song-based vibe than we expected after their looser, though no less rewarding debut! Andrea Belfi is on drums, percussion and electronics, David Grubbs is on electric guitar, keys and some vocals, and Stefano ... LP, Vinyl record album
Michael Lee Yonkers
Galactic Zoo Disk/Drag City, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue)
One of the rarest by DIY psych/folk/private press legend Michael Yonkers! Michael Lee Yonkers the album features home recordings, circa 1971 and 1972 – and it's done in kind of a loner country story mode – a bit different than some of his weirder material of the later 70s. That said, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Borders Of My Mind
Galactic Zoo Disk/Drag City, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
A rare duo record by private press scene trailblazer Michael Yonkers, with singer and piano player Jim Woehrle – purportedly recorded in Woehrle's living room in 1973 – and it's a pretty cool mix of tunes, with surprisingly warm harmonies! The songs themselves are easygoing and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Drag City, 1975. New Copy
A pre-punk bit of charged, hard grooving Motor City rock from Death – a lost record that takes a tightly coiled, blazing approach to their influences of garage rock and psychedelia – and a record that's all the better in that it was recorded way back in 1975! To put it bluntly, music ... LP, Vinyl record album

Imitation Of Life
Drag City, 2013. New Copy
Beautiful avant pop from Japan! We'd have a tough time classifying Imitation Of Life, so we'll go with Drag City's "progressive sci fi pop" description – and just add excellent to that! Eiko has a lovely singing voice and plays a lot of the instruments herself – piano, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Here Am I
Soul Deep/Drag City, 1977. New Copy (reissue)
Wonderfully weird work from Frederick Michael St Jude – a set of self-penned tunes that are clearly trying for a much wider reach than the small label status of this rare record! Minimalist drone from Masaki Batoh of Ghost – sparely beautiful and somewhat ominous soundscapes from ever-creative experimenter – and the way he created these sounds is kinda mindblowing! Spare solo sounds from Al Cisneros – known for his work in the group's Sleep and Om, but working here in some really cool stretched-out, drone-based guitar territory!
