Excellent stuff from Blow Fly – and a great bit of funk that's a hilarious parody of disco! Blow's band funks it up with riffs that you'd hear from The JBs, BT Express, or other groups of the time – while Blow himself sings these very off-color, and very funny lyrics that rip off the overt sensuality and empty promises of the disco era. The whole thing's as great as any of his other funky records from the time – and it's another one of those great gems from the 70s that put the "party" in Party Records!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. New Copy (reissue)
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1971. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)
Subtitled "Live At the Apollo Vol 3", but waaay better than any of the earlier volumes, this monster 2LP live set has James and the JB's wailing away in a freewheeling live set of hard hard hard funky grooves. Excellent work by the band, and a great way to see how sharp they were out of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Westbound/4 Men With Beards, 1970. New Copy (reissue)
One of the darkest records to ever come out of the Detroit soul scene! As you might guess from the title, the album is Funkadelic's first – and it's a swirling mass of psychedelic guitars, echoey drums, and bass-heavy riffing, all topped off by the band's harmony vocals, which sound like a ... Ace/Kent (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy
Wonderful work from Ty Karim – an LA singer from the 60s, just waiting to be rediscovered! Ty might not be the biggest name in California soul, but she's a hell of a great talent here – starting out in the 60s with upbeat Northern Soul groovers – then moving into the 70s with ... What's Going On
Tamla, 1971. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)
One of the few cases in the history of pop music where the record is worth all the hype! Marvin blew everyone's mind when he unleashed this amazing suite of political soul tunes – not only just because he'd moved past the simple love songs of earlier years, but also because he was working ... Black Caesar
Polygram, 1973. New Copy (reissue)
Damn, is this a great record! The album's not only one of the best blacksploitation soundtracks ever recorded, it's also one of James Brown's funkiest outings of the early 70s! Nearly every cut's a winner, and James gets some very funky help from The JBs, who groove hard on the best instrumental ... LP, Vinyl record album

Colpix/4 Men With Beards, 1959. New Copy (reissue)
Amazing is right – as the album features Nina caught at a great early point in her career, delivering a mix of ballads and folkish tunes – all with the kind of emotion that has kept us listening to her over the years. The approach is simple, but legendary, and filled with righteous ... LP, Vinyl record album
