A near-lost chapter in the Stax Records catalog – and an album recorded by The MGs in the years after Booker left Memphis and the group for the California scene! The album features organist Carson Whitsett at the keys – doing a pretty good job of filling Booker's place – but the real strength of the set comes from drummer Al Jackson – who plays the kit with some nice crackling moments, mixing up soul and funk with the unusual sensitivity that made him so great! The best cuts have kind of a "bubbling under" organ sound – in kind of a post-Melting Pot mode that's really nice and mellow – and titles include "Black Side", "Left Overs", "Sugar Cane", "Neck Bone", and "Spare Change". (Cover has a cutout hole with some light stains near the spine.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! Roy Ayers in a very Afro-styled mode – working here on his own after a famous collaboration with Fela Kuti – in a set that's filled with the same sort of hard-driving Afro-Funk grooves that you'd find in Fela's classic recordings! Sublime work from Frankie Beverly and Maze – smooth, mellow, and perfectly put together, with a level of care and class that you'd be hard pressed to find in many of the group's contemporaries! The album's not one of the group's most famous, but that makes it even more of a treat, as you'll ... LP, Vinyl record album
