Street Music Of Yogyakarta (LP & 7 inch EP)Various
LP (Item 574625) Mississippi, 1978 — Condition: New Copy
A vinyl document of Jack Body's 1978 recordings of the street music of Java! The ngamen, or street musicians, were much more common in Java than other parts of Indonesia – and Body captures them brilliantly. There's fairly traditional Javanese folk music at play, as well as styles with more recent global influences, played on the streets in crowded streets and market places – with those sounds often audible in the recordings. Songs include "Hai Cium Dong", Kathik Nganggo Nglirik", "Kuda Lumping", "Hitam Manis", "Dangdut Medley", "Ing, Ing" and more. Comes with a great booklet, too – a large, black & white 11-page set of "Recording And Documentation" by Jack Body & Yono Soekarno with detailed notes on the musicians and the music, including English translation of the lyrics, which is a really nice bonus, along with some notation and other illustrations. (Includes a free bonus 7" 33 RPM EP with the songs "Putra Sala", "Kencana Mung Caton Wingka", "Asoi" and "Jali Jali".) © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
