4.50 5

A groovy little jazz mass – written by Galt MacDermot in collaboration with lyricist William Dumaresq – and done in a post-Hair style that's got plenty of subtle funky touches underneath the vocals! The work follows in the mode of similar albums from the time by David Axelrod, Howard Roberts, and even MacDermot – with a mass-like structure, but lyrics that are clearly contemporary – and music that's got plenty of nice bass at the bottom, and some nice Hair-like rhythms rolling through the mix. Vocalists include Salome Bey, Nel Carter, and the Howard Roberts Chorus – and from what we can tell, Bernard Purdie's helping out on drums! (Cool original pressing! Comes with a golden gatefold cover too!)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
